Wednesday Evenings
Held at Marilyn’s Studio on Whidbey Island

May 3rd through July 5th, 2023
$120 - $180 Sliding Scale
Join us for a class using of one of Elizabeth Cunningham’s early novels of self-discovery as a template to explore the contrast between and interweaving of Father Church and the Earth-based spirituality of the goddess religion in each of us.
As Nor Hall writes in her endorsement of Cunningham’s book, “In The Return of the Goddess the double entendre of passion drives the plot. The Church of our Fathers and the Mother’s sacred ground collide and explode into sparks. The pace is perfect, her images linger. She’s packed a terrific story into a full deck of divinatory cards, playing with everyone’s current marital and spiritual discord.”
As we read the book together, we will work with the main characters as we might a dream, mining each of them for insight into aspects of our own psyches as a way to bring forth a more conscious understanding of how we might have grown up differently had the Divine Feminine not been eclipsed in our culture, and now, as She returns, how we might respond.
We will use chant, the sharing of our personal stories, and participation in small rituals to personalize the content and to build community together.
To stimulate our discussions, Marilyn will also draw on content from other resources such as Starhawk’s The Spiral Dance and Dreaming the Dark; Demetra George’s Mysteries of the Dark Moon; Layne Redmond’s When the Drummers Were Women; Riane Eisler’s Sacred Pleasure, and she will introduce a new understanding that is emerging today of who Mary Magdalene really was.
